Maybe you like sweets?
Both monkeys and the first people searched for sweet food: berries, fruits, and honey.
Sweet food might mean it’s edible!
Something sour might mean that the fruit is not ripe yet.
Bitter taste might mean that the fruit is poisonous.
There are four different tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, and salty.
But there is the fifth taste. It was discovered a hundred years ago.
It is called a Japanese word “umami”.
It means the food will be nourishing.
The taste “umami” is in meat, mushrooms, and walnuts.
Soy sauce makes any food taste like that.
