Младший брат
The Little Brother.
In this family there were two older and one younger brother. The older brothers always helped their parents- they washed dishes, peeled potatoes, ironed, moved furniture- but the second they tried to ask the younger brother:
“Move this armchair, please!”
Or:
“Peel some potatoes!”
He immediately sniveled and answered:
“Ha! That is what my two older brothers are for!”
Once they called him to eat, though, he first looked at this older brothers, and then announced:
“Perhaps I’ll help.”
When it so happened that one of the kids offended the younger brother, he never retaliated.
“Ha!” he said, “That is what my two older brothers are for!”
This is probably why no one ever quarreled with him.
Time came and went, and the older brothers became older. They grew up, received an education, had kids, and found jobs.
But the younger brother stayed young. He, like before, rode his bike and played soccer with his friends.
And when they, stopping him on the street, asked, “How long can you do this for? Are you even planning on growing up?” he didn’t answer right away.
First he gazed at where a passing butterfly flew away.
Next he scratched his freckled nose.
Banged on a ball a couple of times.
And only after that he smiled and announced:
“Ha! That is what my two older brothers are for!”
