День рождения
(Из книги «Слон-сыночек»)

В Африке родился слонёнок. Он открыл глаза и стал знакомиться с новым миром:
- Это что? – спросил он у мамы.
- Баобаб.
- А это что?
- Небо.
- А в небе что?
- Солнце и облака.
- А это что?
- Не что, а кто! Я - птица, - проворчал старый марабу.
- А там что? – не унимался слонёнок.
- Гора, - мама погладила сына хоботом по пушистой макушке.
- Какая большая и красивая! Почти как ты! – воскликнул слонёнок и прижался к тёплому маминому боку.

The Birthday
In Africa a baby elephant was born. He opened his eyes and started discovering the new world.
- What is this? - He asked his mom.
- A Baobab tree.
- And what is this?
- The sky.
- And what is in the sky?
- The sun and clouds.
- And what is this?
- Not what, WHO! I am a bird,-grumbled old marabou.
- What is over there?
- The baby elephant just couldn't stop!
- A mountain - mom stroked her son with her trunk on his fluffy head.
- How big and beautiful! Almost like you!- Exclaimed the elephant and snugled up to mom's warm side.
