Цирк придумали древние римляне. Слово «цирк» на языке древних римлян означает круг, а в цирке все круглое.
Цирк – это целый мир.
Купол похож на небо. Под куполом подвешены трапеции и веревочные лестницы для воздушных гимнастов.
Арена – как земля. Здесь вперемешку люди и звери.
Римляне посыпали арену песком. Слово «песок» на их языке и есть «арена».
Арену часто называют манежем. Название «манеж» сохранилось с тех времен, когда в цирке выступали только лошади и наездники.
На манеже проходит большая часть циркового представления. Сегодня пол манежа делают из каучука. Он ровный и гладкий.
От зрительного зала манеж отделен барьером. По барьеру могут бегать дрессированные собачки и обезьянки. Иногда лошади ставят на барьер передние ноги и кланяются зрителям.
Круговые ряды вокруг арены называются амфитеатром. Здесь сидят зрители. Они смотрят представление и едят мороженое.

The Ancient Romans invented the circus. In the language of Ancient Romans the word «circus» meant «circle», and in a circus everything is round.
A circus is a whole world!
The cupola looks like the sky. Trapezes and rope ladders for aerial gymnasts hang from the cupola. The arena is like the land: here people and animals are mixed together. The Romans put sand on the arena. The word «arena» actually means «sand» in their language.
The circus arena is often called manege. The word «manege» comes from the times when only horses and horseriders performed in the circus. Large part of the circus performance happens on the manege. Today the floor of the manege is made of crude rubber. It's smooth and even.
A barrier separates the manege from the auditorium. Tamed dogs and monkeys can run around on top of the barrier. Sometimes horses put their front legs on the barrier and bow to the audience.
The circular rows around the arena are called ampitheater. This is where the spectators sit. They watch the performance and eat ice cream.
