Is it easy to be a king?
(From the book “I am a king, and you are too”
“Enough!” yelled the king one morning. “Problems, questions. But me – Solve them, solve. Also, think of what kind of mark will you leave on history. Anyone can rule!”
The line of willing people queued up from the throne room to the city gates.
The minister, who did not have time to get in line, now looked at the king in a lost manner.
“Do I shoo them away?”
“Let each of them rule!”
“For two minutes each!” announced the minister.
The line fussed.
“First in line, go up!”
And so, the first man sat on the throne, and as he sat down, the questions came: borders, neighbors, ambassadors.
“What are we going to do?”
“What? Where?”
“Uhhh…”
“Your time is up! Next!”
“I haven’t left a mark on history yet.”
“You are the reason why! You have to be in shape!”
The monarchs changed with discipline.
“In line, in line!”
One could only sit on the throne.
Another one – place a stamp.
The third – accept some ambassadors.
“Accept the ambassadors. With presents.”
“I want to be with the presents! Me!” yelled some people from the line.
After talking for a long time, and only five people had already sat on the throne.
Finally, the head ambassador said:
“Let me give you this small present.”
But while they were getting the present…
“Your time has run out!” said the minister. “The present is not yours anymore. Go away, make it quick!”
“Not fair! I negotiated it!”
“Rules are rules!”
Next, the one who got the present, was elated. But then, he opened the box, and a puma jumped out.
“That is a rare animal, by the way.”
“Why do I need a puma?!”
“Do you think that it is easy to rule? Take your puma and go away!”
He took the puma.
But when everyone was still indignant, they got mad and went away.
The king only returned the next day in the evening.
All sunburned and relaxed.
“Not even for a day I can leave kingship!”
“It was a troublesome thing, and unforgiving,” was said throughout the citizenry. “How does our king deal with all this?!”
Only one was left happy. During his rule, a snack was invented. He had not ever tasted such good straws with cream.
