The King of the Animals
One day toys from a toy department decided to choose a king for themselves.
All of them agreed that the king should be a Lion, but which one?
The thing was that in the toy department there were three lions: one was very big, the other one had a strong voice and the third one was small and quiet.
“Let our king be the one that is large in size!”- said the ancient turtle, who was brought in to the toy department during the last century. “This is the kind of king that everyone will be afraid of, the water toys, and the ones that are made of tin, and the robot transformers!”
And so the king of the stuffed animals became the Large Size Lion. He right away knocked down two elephants and three monkeys from the top shelf (the most important self) and then he climbed onto it and became a king in all his splendor. All the rest of the animals got together on the floor. They bowed down in front of the king and thought: “This is a real king!”
Then suddenly, somebody bought the king! The customer’s name was Senya. He was six years old and he was very short. And because the counter was blocking, Senya would not have even seen the Lion had the Lion not gotten up so high and been so big and magnificent.
“We’ve lost our king!”, said the ancient Turtle. “But let’s not be sad! Life goes on! Let our new king be the one with the loud voice!”
Everyone immediately agreed, because they really wanted to have a king. The Lion with the Loud Voice right away roared with his really loud voice:
“R-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!”- so loud, that not only the stuffed animals quieted down, but also the water toys, the Tin soldiers and even the robot transformers. More than that, the toy machine guns stopped shooting, and tanks stopped rumbling. Two saleswomen fainted, and in the director’s office a big oak table shook.
The stuffed animals were looking at the Loud Lion and they thought: “This is a real king!”
And at that very moment Vasya went in to the toy shop. He had earphones in his ears from is music player. But he right away heard the Lion, because it was roaring so loudly! Of course Vasya bought him immediately. He liked everything that was loud.
Poor animals! For a long time they couldn’t understand what was going on after such a terrible loss. Many of them were crying, and as everyone knows moisture is bad for the health of stuffed toys.
Then the ancient Turtle said, “Don’t cry stuffed animals, because we still have a third Lion. Even though he is small and quiet, but he is still a Lion.
And that’s how the king of the animals became the Small and Quiet Lion. He also was very modest. He never jumped ahead and never stood out from the backs of the elephants and hippopotamuses. The customers didn’t notice him, so he would keep on ruling in the toy department. He still rules there today.
And do you know what? The animals behave themselves. They don’t quarrel, they don’t attack each other, and they don’t fight with robots. Why? Because they know: the king is somewhere near, unnoticeable and quiet…
But if one of you children will find the Lion Small and Quiet in the toy department, and afterwards, you’ll decide to buy him, to tell you the truth, the Lion would be really happy.
To be a king of course is really nice, but to be somebody’s favorite toy is even better!
As for the toy department, don’t worry. Rumor is that soon they should be getting a new collection of Lions, maybe even seven or eight!
