Don’t you love and enjoy sweets? Most likely, you do.
Our ancestors and even monkeys tried to find sweet food in the forests.
They were looking for berries, fruit and honey.
All things sweet are most likely edible!
And there they found a sour taste, when fruit are not ripe.
A bitter taste can mean that a fruit is poisonous.
It’s said that there are four tastes: sweet, sour, bitter and salty.
But there is also a fifth. They discovered it a hundred years ago.
In Japanese it’s called ‘umami’.
This taste promises people a nourishing taste.
Meat, mushrooms and walnuts have the taste ‘umami’.
Soy sauce gives this taste to any dish.
