"From The Sky"
By Наталья Евдокимова (Natalia Evdokimova)
In the morning, I found a star in the pocket of my coat. She had slightly prickly edges, and she was warm. I firmly pressed my hand over my pocket, so that you couldn't see how she glowed.
"Hello," she said, "I'm a star. And who are you?"
"I'm Mishka," I answered simply, "how did you end up here with me?"
"From the sky... I fell. You'll let me go, right?" asked the star.
"Yes," I said, "of course, tonight!"
As soon as it darkened, I took her in my hands, brought her up to the open window, and she flew upward.
The next morning I found her in my pocket again.
"Hello!" I said, "did you fall from the sky again?"
"No," said the star, "on purpose. You'll let me go tonight, right?"
"Yes," I said, "as usual, you know..."
