When the sun set behind the hill and the trees bursted into ghostly flames, colored by the silvery light of the full moon, a moose walked into the village. He strolled down the streets, turned on the nettle-full crossroads and strayed into the front yard of Anna Petrofina. He took a sip from the bucket she uses to water her plants, munched on some leaves and licked the shovel that was standing on the front porch. Then he put his head in to the window and started eating a pot of oatmeal Anna left to eat for her breakfast. Just then he knocked down the kettle with one of his antlers, the moose jerked as hot water splashed on him, that is when he realized he was stuck.
Anna Petrofina went to the kitchen to feast upon the delicious oatmeal she made the evening before and maybe even drink a cup of nice warm tea only to find the pot on a big black nose of a moose and the kettle on the floor. At first she grabbed a flyswatter but then she felt bad for the moose so she decided to fetch her neighbor.
‘’ hey Mitt’’ she called. ‘’ u’moose decided to feed’im self some oatmeal and’s head got stuck, hope’e didn’t trample ma chic’n, come’er at once!”
“What moose?” he asked sleepily.
“A horned one obviously, are there any other kinds of moose? He stuffed his head trough my window and ate my breakfast!”
Mittrich went over to Anna’ s house to see the moose with his own eyes.
“So what?” he asked.
“So get’m out’a here!”
“Well how’m I s’post to do that?
“Well I don’t know!”
“ How about you just live with’m, look at she’s gorgeous antlers.”
“ Don’t talk nonsense, a cow would know that it’s a stupid idea”
“ OK fine I’ll try”
So Mittrich brought a saw and carefully started sawing off the window frame.
The moose stood still and only flopped his ears. He didn’t like the way that the saw was buzzing. Finally he cut off window frame and pushed the moose’s head out.
The moose was standing in the middle of the yard with a blue curtain on his head.
“Mitt, take that curtain of. What will I cover my window with?”
Mittrich went over to the him but the moose saw him and jumped over the fence to gallop into the forest.
“Wait! come back!” yelled Anna Petrofina,” “Give me back my curtain!”
She tried to catch him but of course the moose was too fast.
From then on many people saw the moose with the curtain on his head, until he shedded his old antlers.
